CPR classes let you to save a life by teaching you your ABC! I am sure you have seen the movies where the life guard saves the fellow and starts to give him mouth to mouth only to find out that he is faking. Sadly enough they may not be faking all of the time. It is a very frightening thing when someone is drowning and you are their only hope for survival. It is not as intimidating if you know adult CPR however. As soon as you learn ways to do CPR you easily improve their chances of making it. If you allow them to just lay there and wait many times that it is too late. Let's now move on to look into the ABC's of how to save someone's life by using this technique.

A is for airway. Before you decide to do just about anything make sure that you look at the person to see if they are breathing. Make certain you stop look and listen to be certain that they are not breathing prior to starting to straighten out their airway and start the breathing part of the ABCs of adult CPR.

B is for breathing. Ensure that the victim's airway is still in the correct position. Hold their head steadied by putting your hand on their chin. Then you need to pinch the person's nose with your fingers. When you do this it will stop air from escaping when you are attempting to ventilate the person. You will put your mouth over the victim's mouth and this will create a tight seal. Keep an eye on the person's chest while assisting them in breathing. Never over inflate the person's lungs or otherwise it is possible to force air into their belly. If you do this it can make them vomit. You need to be providing the person two full breaths. Allow the lungs to relax in between the breaths and pay attention as the air comes out and the lungs go down. You will learn exactly how to do this in your CPR Class.


C is for circulation. You can find out if the person's heart is still beating by placing two fingertips on his carotid artery. You can locate this artery in the depression between the neck muscles and windpipe. If there is no pulse when you check the victim you need to perform chest compressions.

Once you remember the ABCs of adult CPR you will have the chance of saving someone's life. It is important that you understand how to accomplish this, especially if you are going to be around the water. The life you save can be someone near and important to you.
